Learn About Existing Medical Conditions →What's not covered?
Travel insurance is designed to help protect you against unexpected events, but there are situations where cover won't apply. Some of the most important exclusions include:
- Known events or circumstances that you were aware of before buying your policy and that could reasonably be expected to affect your trip.
- Travelling against official government advice, including destinations where the Australian Government has issued a 'Do Not Travel' warning in the circumstances outlined in the PDS.
- Losses caused by not taking reasonable care, such as leaving your belongings unattended or putting yourself in a situation where damage, theft or injury was reasonably foreseeable.
- Certain epidemics, pandemics and infectious diseases, except where cover is specifically provided under the policy.
- Claims arising from activities or situations specifically excluded by the policy, including some high-risk sports and activities.
- Existing medical conditions that aren't automatically covered or haven't been accepted by World2Cover, where assessment is required.
- Cruises or ski and winter sports, unless you've selected the relevant optional cover where required.
Some benefits also have their own specific conditions, limits, sub-limits, and exclusions. Always read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) before purchasing your policy.
What to consider when choosing a travel insurance policy?
Choosing a travel insurance policy depends on where you're travelling, how often you travel and the type of activities you're planning. Consider the questions below to help choose the policy for your trip.
Step 1: Where are you travelling? If you're travelling overseas, compare the available levels of international cover to find the one that suits your destination and travel plans. If you're travelling within Australia, consider domestic single trip cover, which is designed for travel within Australia.
Step 2: How often do you travel? If you take multiple overseas holidays each year, annual multi-trip cover may provide a more convenient alternative to purchasing a new policy for every trip. If you're planning one holiday, international single trip cover may be more suitable.
Step 3: What level of cover do you need? Each level of cover offers different features and benefits. Basics cover includes standard inclusions, essentials cover provides additional benefits and higher benefit limits, while top cover offers the highest level of cover across a wider range of insured events. It’s important to review the details of each option to see which is the most appropriate for your travel plans.
Step 4: Do you need additional cover? Some trips require more than standard travel insurance. If you're going on a cruise, skiing or snowboarding, or travelling with an existing medical condition, check whether you need to add optional cover or have your medical condition assessed before you purchase your policy.
