How annual multi-trip travel insurance works
Unlimited trips in a 12-month period
Once issued, the policy allows for an unlimited number of leisure trips throughout the policy year; subject to the eligibility criteria and cover terms in the PDS, no new policy or pre-departure notice is required for each trip.
Choose your maximum trip duration
Pick a maximum trip duration of 30, 45, or 60 days at purchase. It applies to every trip, so choose a length that comfortably covers your longest planned journey.
Benefits automatically reinstated each trip
At the end of each completed trip, your sums insured reset for the next one; a claim on one trip doesn't reduce the cover available for the trips that follow.
Covers both international and Australian trips
Covers trips overseas and trips within Australia more than 250km from home. The Australian portion of any trip has no medical cover, as this is provided by Medicare.

Who is annual multi trip cover for?
Our annual multi-trip cover is designed for leisure travellers who go on multiple trips in a year. It tends to suit the following types of travellers especially well:
- Frequent overseas travellers: If you take two or more international trips a year, an annual policy may save you time — there’s no need to arrange a separate policy before each trip.
- Mixed international and domestic travellers: Heading to Europe for the summer, then escaping to Cairns or Margaret River later in the year? One annual multi-trip policy covers both, provided each domestic trip is more than 250km from your home.
- Families with multiple holidays a year: Up to two adults and any declared dependants aged 19 and under can be covered on the same policy, at no additional cost for the dependants (unless an existing medical condition requires assessment). ††
- Travellers with last-minute or unplanned trips: Once issued, your policy covers future trips you haven't booked yet, so you can travel on short notice without buying a new policy each time. Make sure to declare all your destinations at the time of purchase; if you add a new destination later (such as the USA), you'll need to amend your policy, which may affect your premium.
Eligibility at a glance
You must be aged 18–75 at the time of purchasing your policy; an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of an eligible Australian visa with a valid Medicare card and primary residence in Australia; and travelling for leisure (business or corporate travel is not covered). For full eligibility criteria, refer to the PDS.
Single trip or annual multi-trip?
Annual multi-trip makes sense when
- You expect to take two or more international or interstate trips in the next 12 months
- Your longest planned trip is 60 days or less
- You want the flexibility to travel without arranging new insurance for each trip — provided you declare all your destinations at purchase and contact us before departure if you need to add a new destination
- You're aged 18–75 at the time of purchase
A single trip plan may be better when
- You're only planning one trip in the next 12 months
- Your trip is longer than 60 days
- You're aged 76 or over (single trip plans cover up to age 110)
- You need cover for business or corporate travel (neither plan covers this)

Domestic trips on your annual policy
Annual multi-trip cover includes trips within Australia, with some important conditions specific to domestic travel that are worth understanding before you buy.
The 250km rule
A domestic trip must be more than 250km from your home to be covered. If you take regular short trips closer to home, a Domestic Single Trip policy may be a better fit.
No medical cover for the Australian portion
The Australian portion of any trip is not covered for medical, hospital, dental, or evacuation expenses, as this is provided by Medicare. All other benefits, cancellation, luggage, emergency expenses, and rental vehicle excess still apply.
River cruising is included automatically
International and domestic river cruising is automatically included##; there is no need to select the optional cruise benefits cover. Ocean cruising requires the cruise benefits option at purchase.^^
Tailor your cover with optional extras
Two optional extras can be added to your annual multi-trip policy for an additional premium, giving you flexibility to match the cover to the way you actually travel.
Cruise benefits option
Booking an ocean cruise? The cruise benefits option adds cabin confinement, missed port, missed shore excursion, and marine rescue diversion cover, and ensures your overseas medical and evacuation cover applies onboard, so if illness or injury means you need to be transferred ashore to hospital, evacuation (including by helicopter where medically necessary) can be arranged and covered. Select it at purchase if any planned trip includes an ocean cruise.^^
Ski and winter sports option
Planning a snow trip to Japan, New Zealand, Canada, or Europe? (think France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria). The ski and winter sports option adds equipment hire, ski pack, piste closure, avalanche, lift pass, and overseas medical cover for skiing injuries. Available to travellers aged 85 and under.
Cover for existing medical conditions
Some conditions are covered automatically.~~ Others can be assessed at the quote stage and, if approved, added for an additional premium. See our existing medical conditions page for full details.
Why choose World2Cover for annual multi-trip cover?
Up to 60 days per trip

Domestic pet cover included
If your cat or dog is injured in the care of a friend, sitter, or boarding facility during your trip, you may be reimbursed up to $650 for vet attention, plus up to $25 per 24 hours in extra boarding fees if your return is delayed for a covered reason.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many trips can I take on an annual multi-trip policy?
There's no limit. Once your policy is issued, the policy allows for an unlimited number of leisure trips over the 12 months, as long as each trip stays within your chosen maximum trip duration and the cover terms in the PDS.
What's the maximum length of a single trip?
You can choose 30, 45, or 60 days per trip at the time of purchase, and that limit applies to every trip during the year. If a single trip runs longer than your selected duration, the extra days aren't covered, so pick a length that comfortably covers your longest planned trip.
Are my domestic trips covered?
Yes, provided each domestic trip is more than 250km from your home. Trips within 250km aren't covered, and the Australian portion of any trip has no medical cover (that's provided by Medicare). See the PDS for full conditions.
Do I need to inform World2Cover before each trip?
Not before each individual trip — but you must ensure all your destinations are listed on your policy at the time of purchase. If you need to add a new destination after purchase (for example, the USA), you’ll need to contact us before departure to amend your policy, which may affect your premium. Subject to the eligibility criteria and cover terms in the PDS, no new Certificate of Insurance is required for each trip.
Can I add my family to the policy?
Yes. One policy can cover up to two adults and any declared dependants aged 19 and under who are financially dependent, not working full-time, and travelling with you – at no additional cost, unless a dependant has an existing medical condition that needs assessment.††
Is cruising covered under the annual multi-trip policy?
River cruising is included automatically.## Ocean cruising requires the optional cruise benefits cover to be selected at the time of purchase.^^See our cruise travel insurance page for full details.
††Dependant means any of your children, stepchildren, foster children or grandchildren who are 19 years of age or under at the time you purchase your policy, financially dependent on their parents or grandparents, not working full time, travelling with you for your entire trip and listed on the Certificate of Insurance as your Dependant. Dependants can be covered at no extra cost if they have not disclosed any medical conditions requiring assessment. Terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits apply.
